Students who join the Honors program may choose to graduate with distinction, so that
they receive an Honors cord on the commencement stage after receiving their diploma and
their name is printed in the commencement program under Honors graduates. But this
is entirely optional and many Honors students in good standing earn their bachelor’s
degree with graduating with distinction. The choice is yours, but if you want to graduate
with distinction you must:
- Graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 at UBalt.
- Successfully complete the required number of course credits. In addition to all Enhanced
and Honors courses, you may also earn Honors credit by completing Global Field Studies,
graduate courses, and internships taken for course credit.
- If you enter the Honors Program as a transfer student or a returning UBalt student,
you must complete at least 12 of the above credits.
- If you enter Honors as a freshman, you must complete at least 15 of the above credits.
- Deliver a presentation at Inspired Discoveries, a one-day research event on campus in early May), or another approved public event
with prior written permission from the Honors program director.
- Attend four co-curricular events per academic year. After attending a co-curricular, you must submit a response of
250-300 words within two weeks to the Assignments tab on Canvas.
*Please note that any use of artificial intelligence is strictly prohibited for co-curricular
responses. Writings found to be produced with AI will not be accepted as co-curricular
responses and will invalidate a student's application to graduate with Honors.
