Troubleshooting for Textbook Ordering
MBS Direct is the online textbook vendor; Barnes & Noble still operates the Hive campus store on the first floor of the Student Center with apparel, computers, school supplies, snacks, and coffee. Order textbooks here , and read instructions here .
There is a difference between the “credit” available at the Student Portal. Textbook/bookstore credit is used only online at the MBS Direct textbook purchase site to buy textbooks. Supplies credit is also available through the student portal but is spent only at the Hive campus store in the Student Center for course packets, school supplies, computers, and other items. Both are available about 24 business hours after you apply. Check here for questions .
If the Student Portal gives an error message when you attempt to apply for textbook/bookstore credit and or supplies credit, email email@example.com for assistance.
You can pay for textbooks, and shipping to home or work using financial aid by first applying for textbook/bookstore credit on the student portal. The credit will be available in about 24 business hours. When the credit is available, click the blue button “Use It Here” on the top of the textbook ordering page.
It’s easy to find your books online at the “Getting Started” page shown below:
1) Select the first left-hand menu item at www.ubalt.edu/bookstore which is “Order Textbooks”.
2) Then, on the “Getting Started” page shown below, enter your course numbers and sections in the box on the right side, and click the course name to select it. (Click the X to remove the course.)
3) Once your courses are displayed on the screen, click the blue arrow at the bottom right to see your textbooks. It’s easier to select all courses, then “View Your Materials”.
4) Select your books among the options, choosing to ship, and check out. The link to pay with textbook/bookstore credit is a blue button “Use It Here” at the top of the page.
When you find your classes, these are the textbook status messages you may see:

“Textbook to be announced” This may mean there are other materials the professor will announce in class or there has been a delay in the ordering process.
“Materials available at a later time” indicates the textbook is on order. Check back shortly.
Materials available in the “Campus Store” or “School Store” indicates the materials are in course packet form. Course packets are for sale in the Hive campus store on the first floor of the Student Center.
“Temporarily out of stock” indicated the vendor has a new supply of textbooks on the way. Check back shortly.
I used the free shipping option or had my books delivered to campus. Where can I pick them up? See the Hive campus store on the first floor of the Student Center.
