Practice Makes Perfect. The Board of Advocates is one place to begin your journey to becoming a new lawyer.  Won't you join us?

Did you know that lawyers who prepare for oral arguments in the Supreme Court will often practice for months before their colleagues? Begin practicing now to become a future attorney by seeking a position on the Board of Advocates (BOA), either as a competitor on one of the school's advocacy teams or as a leader on the executive board.

Advocacy is an art. It takes tremendous skill, which is developed through preparation and practice. UBalt Law's BOA serves law students by providing numerous opportunities to begin one's journey in becoming a practicing trial attorney or appellate advocate. 

The BOA accomplishes this mission by assisting with the selection of students for various interscholastic competitions. It also provides numerous opportunities for students to gain skills in advocacy by assisting with the first-year Introduction to Advocacy class and by providing training and mentoring opportunities during the school's annual Byron L. Warnken Moot Court competition. 

 

BOA members gain valuable leadership skills in organizing advocacy efforts. Working closely with alumni, many of whom were competitors on moot court or trial teams, the board's members have opportunities to network with lawyers and judges, as they work on preparing for competitions.
