ACC | Accident Leave | All employees. Level of coverage differs. | Used when an employee is injured on the job, has followed proper procedure for worker's compensation and has been approved for Accident Leave. The timesheet will not allow use of ACC leave code without HR approval. |
ANL | Annual Leave | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12 |
Commonly referred to as vacation. Annual leave must be approved in advance by employee's supervisor. For rate of accrual, see Paid Leave. Annual leave carries over from year to year up to 400 hours. |
CLV | Contingent II Leave | C2 |
Eight (8) days of Contingent Leave is granted for a full fiscal year contract, pro-rated for partial-year contracts. Leave is granted at the beginning of the contract period and does not carry over. |
HOL | Holiday | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, C2 |
Eleven (11) holidays are earned per year, twelve (12) during general election years. Some holidays are earned and used on the same date while others are banked for use during winter break. See Holiday Schedule for dates of accrual and observation. Employees in departments with extended hours (i.e. UBalt Police, libraries, Physical Plant) may observe holidays on a different schedule. |
AHL | Holiday - Administrative | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, C2 |
Three (3) Administrative Holidays are given during the winter break. Additional days may be granted by the state or the institution. Employees in departments with extended hours (i.e. UBalt Police, libraries, Physical Plant) may observe holidays on a different schedule. |
JUR | Jury Duty | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26, C2 |
Provides paid leave for Jury duty without deducting from employee's leave. Employee must provide supervisor with documentation from the court that he/she appeared for Jury duty (not the summons). |
LEG | Legal Actions | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26, C2 |
Used when an employee is summoned to appear in court, grand jury, or for a deposition, and is neither a party to the action nor a paid witness. Employee must provide documentation from the court that he/she appeared in order to use Legal Actions Leave. LEG does not deduct from employee's leave balance. |
MIL | Military Leave | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26 | An employee who is a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine or Coast Guard reserve is entitled to leave of absence with pay for military training up to 15 work days in a calendar year. A copy of military orders must be submitted to the supervisor at least 60 days in advance of the leave. Employee's leave is not charged. |
NOP | No Pay | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26 | Used only when employee does not work and does not have any applicable leave available. This code indicates to payroll that the employee will not be paid for designated hours. |
PER | Personal Leave | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12 | Three (3) Personal Days per year. Requires prior notification to supervisor. Must be used prior to the end of the first pay period that ends in the new calendar year. |
SCK | Sick | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26, C1*, NBC* |
Used when an employee is absent from work for his/her own illness, injury, or doctor's appointment. Employee must give as much notice as possible to supervisor. No limit to the amount of sick leave that may be carried over each year. *C1 and NBC employees can carryover up to 40 hours of sick leave each year. The maximum sick leave balance is 64 hours. |
ADS | Sick - Advanced Sick Leave | EXE, NEX | Used when employee has exhausted all paid leave options and is out for a temporary illness or disability. This is not used for short absences. Requires approval of Human Resources. The timesheet will not allow use of ADS leave code without HR approval. Use the Request for Advanced Sick Leave form to submit a request. |
BER | Sick - Bereavement | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26 | Used in case of death of an employee's family member. For a close relative, employee may use up to five (5) days of leave plus an additional two (2) days if out of town travel is required. For any other relative, employee may use one day. |
CSS | Sick - Collegially Supported | F26, F12 | Used when a faculty member is absent for illness or injury, and a colleague voluntarily assumes responsibility for his/her class. Limited to 25 days per year and does not deduct from employee's sick leave balance. |
EXS | Sick - Extended Sick Leave | EXE, NEX | Used when an employee has exhausted all paid leave and advanced sick leave and is out of work for a temporary but recoverable illness or disability. Requires approval of Human Resources. The timesheet will not allow use of EXS leave code without HR approval. Use the Request for Extended Sick Leave form to submit a request. |
FSK | Sick - Family | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, F26 | Used when an employee is absent from work for his/her immediate family member's illness or medical appointment. FSK deducts from the employee's sick leave balance. |
USM | Sick - USM Leave Reserve Fund | EXE, NEX | Used when employees have exhausted advanced and extended sick leave. Application to the fund must be made through Human Resources. The timesheet will not allow use of USM leave code without HR approval. |
SAL | Special Administrative Leave | EXE, NEX, LIB, F12, C2 | Granted by the President or designee and permits employee to be absent from work without loss of pay or charging to his/her own leave, most often for weather conditions. SAL may not be used if employee was pre-approved for leave prior to SAL being granted. |
ADU | Union Leave | NEX | Bargaining unit employees granted release time from work to participate in Union activities. Requests for Union Leave must be submitted to Human Resources in advance for review and approval as specified in the Memorandum of Understanding. Timesheet will not allow the use of ADU leave code without HR approval. |
*Employee Category Definitions:
EXE = Regular Exempt Staff
NEX = Regular Non-Exempt Staff
LIB = Librarians
F12 = 12 Month Faculty
F26 = 10 Month Faculty
C2 = Contingent 2 Staff
C1 = Contingent 1 Staff
NBC = Student Assistants and College Work Study
