Summer Study Abroad in Aberdeen, Scotland

 

Program Dates for Courses: Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 31, 2026 

Breakdown of Costs for Attendance:

  • Tuition: $8598.00 for six credits (the per credit charge is $1433.00). 
  • Program Fees (paid by students to UBalt):
    • Housing: $800.00 (for all students who choose student housing).
    • Program Fee: $1000.00*

*Program fees cover course materials and all program activities and administration costs, including coach trips to Edinburgh and its courts, the Scottish Parliament, Peterhead Prison, a trip to historic Fyvie Castle, receptions, and a final luncheon party. Also note that iNext Travel/Medical Insurance is also included in the program fee.

  • Other Anticipated Costs (to be paid by students directly):
    • Entry Authorization for the United Kingdom: $22.00 (students obtain on their own; you will need the passport you will use for entry, email address, credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, uploaded photos). Website: https://www.gov.uk/eta/apply.
    • Meals & Incidentals: $3051.00 (estimate, per State Department website, for 27 days).
    • Airfare to/from Aberdeen (estimated cost inclusive of ground transport to and from US airport): $1,300 (students book their own flights) **
    • Offsite housing: Estimated housing costs for students who elect to obtain their own housing is $2400.00, per Expedia for 27 days.

**Program participants will be responsible for the cost of travel to and from Aberdeen and any travel outside of the Program. 
 
Total: $14,884.00 (for on-site housing)

  •  For UBalt Law student financial aid inquiries, please contact the UBalt Financial Aid Office.  Each student has a different situation and may have different types of financial aid depending on things like veteran status, so it is important to schedule a meeting with financial aid as soon as possible so that you are clear about what is covered. 
  • For UMD and other non-UBalt students: Please check with your own university’s financial aid office. The financial aid office at UBalt will coordinate with non-UBalt financial aid offices where needed to provide documentation. 

Application deadline is Friday, April 3, 2026.

  • $300 non-refundable deposit due with application: Friday, April 3, 2026.
  • Balance of the Program Fee due, or proof of financial aid secured.
  • Balance due for all tuition and fees.
  • Access to Hillhead Student Accommodations for Summer 2026.
  • Participants may stay for an additional period for an additional small fee but will need to let Hillhead know and organize payment for extra days direct to them.

UBalt and Other Non-UMB Students

UBalt and other students in the program may secure travel to and from the program site in Aberdeen, Scotland as they prefer. The UBalt preferred travel agency is as follows and can help any participant who wishes assistance in obtaining flights:

  • Once all UBalt and non-UMB program participants are identified and confirmed, UBalt will secure travel medical insurance for each through an arrangement with INext. Program participants will be responsible for the costs of such insurance and will receive additional information as to how the costs will be billed.

Cancellation

(1) Cancellation of program: In the unlikely event that the program is canceled, each and every student enrolled would receive individual notice by email, receipt requested, and there would be follow-up by regular mail or telephone, or both, to every student who did not acknowledge receipt of the email. Cancellation of the program would result in refunding all payments made by students.

 

2) Withdrawal by individual student: For a student to withdraw their enrollment in the program, the student must send written notice (by email or regular mail) that is received by the program director or program assistant (or both) no later than noon on May 24, 2026. After timely withdrawal, the student will receive a refund of all payments, other than the nonrefundable $300 deposit. No refunds will be made for withdrawals received after noon on May 24, 2026.
