Admission Standards

What we expect of you (for unconditional acceptance):
- a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a regionally accredited college or university or an undergraduate degree and a B average in 12 credits of graduate study
- proficiency in the use of office computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, and of the Internet.
Under certain conditions, a student with a lower GPA may be admitted on a conditional basis. See the UB Graduate Catalog for further information.
What we need from you:
- Complete and submit the online application and pay the $30 application fee. (To pay in-state tuition, you must submit the Maryland In-State Residency form).
- Request that an official transcript of all prior college or university work (including graduate courses, if applicable) be sent directly from each institution attended; electronic transcripts are encouraged.
- Submit a statement of personal interest in the program of study.
- Have two professors or employers submit letters of recommendation on your behalf; these should be sent to the Office of Graduate Admissions in sealed envelopes with signatures across the sealed portion.
International students have a slightly different admission process and must submit additional documentation.

Application deadlines:
- fall semester admission: July 1
- spring semester admission: Dec. 1
- summer session admission: April 1
You may enter the program and start graduate classes only in the semester for which you are admitted (i.e., if you have been admitted for the fall semester, you cannot take courses during the preceding summer session).
We encourage you to submit your complete application and all supporting materials as soon as possible prior to the deadline to allow an admission decision well before the start of the semester. Applications received after the deadline dates will be considered depending on availability of space, strength of your credentials and sufficiency of time for processing.
